Barbara Walker

My name is Barbara and I am a CBT therapist and EMDR practitioner. I have felt very connected to the holistic and tranquil environment at the Elephant Rooms. I have worked in various organisations relating to mental health and also have my own lived experience. This experience and knowledge informs how I work with people and my approach to delivering therapy. I use CBT skills myself and I know they work. Improving your mental wellbeing is about so many things that can help you to feel stronger, more in control and have the means to ride the storms. I think it’s so important people are heard and valued and I aim to have that as a central element in the therapy room.

I always think it is an honour that people feel able to share their stories with me and in my role as a therapist I aim to share what I have learnt to help people think differently, do things differently and this in turn can have a positive effect on how you feel. I think it is so important to acknowledge that everyone’s experience is unique and to respond to that in a supportive, respectful and flexible way.
