Yoga Day Retreat

  • Elephant Rooms South Street Derby, England, DE72 3PP United Kingdom (map)

The theme of this workshop is Transformation.

Yoga is all about Transformation. Whether our physical bodies, minds, attitudes or our thought patterns, when we begin to develop a consistent relationship with Yoga, we undoubtably change.

These changes can be subtle or dramatic, but gradually as we go a little further into our practice we begin to notice that we think differently about certain things. The “walls” or “layers” we constructed around ourselves begin to strip away. Over time we let go of tension and resistance.

We are approaching the Chinese New Year, the year of the Fire Horse. This year is all about transformation, motion, rapid change and enthusiasm. We say goodbye to the old year, the year of the snake. This encourages us to let go, shed our old habits and desires whilst moving forward.

To me this feels really exciting and positive and will be the basis of our workshop allowing us to explore different philosophies.

The morning practice will be all about building heat or “tapas” in order to raise the energy, pushing us into this New Year. This will be a a Hatha Practice incorporating asana, meditation and pranayama. As well as working into twisting poses we will really focus on being “grounded” and “rooted” in our postures.

We will then break for lunch for an hour. This gives us time to relax or wander around the beautiful garden (weather permitting).

After lunch we go become a little stiller with a Yin session continuing the theme of transformation and allowing time for quiet reflection.

Please bring your own lunch but herbal teas, coffee are available at the venue. You may also wish to bring a journal to make notes.
